Tech Talk #51: When to Correct v When to Remove
Understanding the 'When, What and Why' for Cosmetic Tattooing
When clients present with cosmetic tattoo problems, the technician is usually faced with a decision on what to recommend. Correction or removal?
Not every bad tattoo can (or should) be "fixed" with more pigment. The key is knowing when to start fresh.
In this Tech Talk we are covering:
- How to choose the best path for your client’s results
- Handling migrated eyeliner, blurred strokes, and dark colours
- Why "skin-coloured" corrections rarely work
Navigating Common Issues with Cosmetic Tattooing
Complete cosmetic tattoo removal is often not necessary if the original technician has worked with the natural features of the face. If mistakes have been made with shape, or the client dislikes the shape, or the client's face shape has changed, then full or partial removal may be the best option. Pigment migration and colour change and some of the other issues, and sometimes correction works, and sometimes removal is best.
We have put together a brief guide on common issues and whether to correct or remove. Follow along the particular issue, and look at why or if you may proceed with correction or removal!

Worth noting that shape correction using skin-coloured pigment is rarely successful long term. Skin tones change, and so can the colour of correctors, particularly with sun exposure. What looked effective to start with may also be the start of a problem.
